Prep time: 15 minutes
Servings: A big party bowl
Ingredients
The Base: 2 blocks (8 oz each) cream cheese, well-softened.
The Smooth Secret: 1 cup milk (keep this handy to add gradually).
The Heart: Cooked sliced ham, chopped into cubes (size them how you like 'em!).
The Creamy Melt: 1 cup American cheese slices, cubed (add extra if you're feeling cheesy).
The Crunch: 10–12 green onions, sliced thin.
Instructions:
Smooth the Base:
In a large bowl, beat your softened cream cheese until it's nice and fluffy.
The "Slow Pour" Technique: Gradually add the milk in small amounts, stirring as you go. Stop once you hit that perfect "sweet spot"—where it’s smooth and dippable enough that it won't break a chip, but thick enough to stay on the cracker.
Mix it In:
Fold in your ham slice cubes, the American cheese cubes, and those sliced green onions.
Chill & Set:
Let it rest in the fridge for about an hour. This lets the flavors meld and the texture reach its final "American Cream" consistency.
The "No-Break" Dip:
This is best served with tortilla chips or buttery crackers (like the famous ones in the red box). Because of the milk, you won't have to worry about guests snapping their chips in the bowl!
The "Secret" Sandwich:
If you have leftovers, spread a thick layer between two slices of fresh bread. The American cheese and ham cubes make for a rich, creamy sandwich spread that puts basic ham salad to shame.
The reason this works so well is that American cheese is a natural emulsifier. It helps the milk and cream cheese stay bonded, so your dip stays "velvety" even if it sits out on the snack table for a while.
It’s basically the ultimate multi-purpose party food.
